Before leaving Lyon for Newcastle, Bruno Guimaraes had struck up a solid friendship with fellow Brazilian Lucas Paqueta.
Interestingly, Newcastle lodged a £34m bid for the ex-Flamengo maestro, and he remains a target for Eddie Howe on Tyneside (le10sport).
Now, Paqueta has sent an intriguing message to Bruno Guimaraes ahead of the Premier League clash between Newcastle and Southampton tonight.
What’s the story?
Well, after Paqueta scored the only goal of the game in Lyon’s 1-0 Champions League win over Porto last night, Guimaraes celebrated on Twitter.
Then, the Lyon match-winner replied to the £40m Newcastle man, revealing that he loves him before adding that he’ll be in the crowd at the St Mary’s Stadium.
Now, we’re unsure if Paqueta means he’ll be there in spirit, or if he’ll actually physically be on the south coast tonight.
Whatever he meant, it adds an interesting dimension to the transfer saga involving Newcastle and Paqueta.
Newcastle could sign Lucas Paqueta

In our view, Newcastle can easily sign the South American maestro if they choose to do so.
The Magpies are among the wealthiest clubs on the planet, and – as you can see – Howe has one major pull factor in Bruno Guimaraes.
Without a friend already on Tyneside, Paqueta may have felt apprehensive about moving to a new country during a global pandemic.

However, the fact Bruno Guimaraes is already at Newcastle could easily swing things in Newcastle’s favour, especially as the pair are staying in regular contact.
Keep an eye on this saga – we certainly wouldn’t be surprised to see Paqueta playing in black and white next season.
