Gabby Agbonlahor has posted on Instagram that he could come out of retirement for Aston Villa and ‘still score’ against Birmingham City.
The 34-year-old is now retired, but during his playing days, he had quite the scoring record against Birmingham.
In 10 matches against the Blues, he scored five goals for Villa, supplying one assist, including a number of winning goals at St Andrew’s.
In fact, one of his final few goals in a Villa shirt, before he hung up his boots, was scoring the winning goal against the club’s bitter rivals.
Harry Redknapp had just taken the reigns of Birmingham, as they once again, tried to save themselves from relegation.
Agbonlahor came on as a substitute for a certain Jack Grealish, and as per, he netted the winner in front of a packed-out Holte End.
Nonetheless, when Villa’s official Instagram account was posting one of Gabby’s many winners against those from the other half, this is what he posted in the comments section:
“I could play against them right now with no Achilles and still score,” said Agbonlahor. “I can’t stand them.”
There’s just something about boyhood Villa fans scoring winning goals at St Andrew’s.
Agbonlahor had a habit of doing it and then Jack Grealish did just that the season Villa got promoted to the Premier League.
There’s no doubt that Villa fans would love to see more of that, but the issue is that Birmingham are a Championship club and they are competing with the elite in England’s top-flight.
