Bakary Sako has admitted that he is really ‘trying to convince’ Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to leave Arsenal and return to Ligue 1.
Aubameyang’s long-term future at Arsenal has been thrown into some doubt.
A disciplinary issue resulted in Mikel Arteta stripping the Gunners hitman of the captaincy earlier in December.
Not only that, but the Spaniard has exiled Aubameyang from his senior squad for the last four matches across all competitions, all of which were victories.
Having already reported for Africa Cup of Nations duty with Gabon, the 32-year-old hitman is likely to miss the vast majority of Arsenal’s early-winter schedule in January.
The former Borussia Dortmund marksman joined Arsenal in 2018 after a goal-laden spell in Germany, where he moved in 2013 after lighting up Ligue 1 with Saint Etienne.
And Sako, who plays for the French outfit now, has admitted that he’s trying to coax the out-of-favour Gunner back to the club.
He said to a press conference, via GFFN: “I am trying to attract him… Wouldn’t you like to see Aubameyang back at St Etienne? We all feel the same. I am very serious when I tell him to come, even if it is in a joking tone.”
Impossible
Aubameyang could well leave Arsenal, because clearly Arteta has a zero-tolerance policy in North London, but he won’t be re-joining Saint-Etienne.
The African star is taking home £350,000 per week at the Emirates and there’s just no way the French outfit can come anywhere near to matching his salary demands.
But you can’t fault Sako for trying!
