It would be an understatement to say that Newcastle have been linked with an abundance of players since PIF completed their historic takeover, and one such name who keeps popping up is Jesse Lingard.

According to the Telegraph, the new Magpie owners have already discussed the possibility of signing the England international. After all, Lingard’s deal with Manchester United is set to expire next summer, and plenty of clubs are rumoured to be interested in the 28-year-old.

Yet since that initial report, there have been some more updates to the story. The big one being that United are now considering selling Lingard for a cut-price in the January window of around £15m as per the Sun, and this should be music to the ears of Newcastle.

Lingard is perfect to kick off new era at Newcastle

The 32-cap England international has hardly featured for United this season and could be willing to leave his boyhood club for good should a suitable offer come in during the January window.

Indeed, Lingard proved last season with West Ham that under the right manager and around the right squad, the attacking midfielder can be an incredible weapon in the Premier League. And for Newcastle, they could do with a player like this.

The Toon have struggled massively this season. This is why this Saudi-backed takeover is such an exciting time for the northeast club. With effectively endless amounts of money to spend, nobody is out of reach for Newcastle, yet Lingard is a realistic and smart signing that can be made soon.

Lingard could work wonders alongside Willock and Saint-Maximin

With Newcastle going big on Joe Willock over the previous summer and Allan Saint-Maximin so far carrying Steve Bruce’s side this season, there is some groundwork to be built on with the current squad. And Lingard could be the perfect foil to these two players.

The United star brought the best out of the likes of Pablo Fornals and Said Benrahma at West Ham. And Lingard could do something similar for Newcastle. If the club pulls the trigger and bring the England star to Tyneside, that is.

Whilst exciting times are ahead for Newcastle, there has to be a blanket of realism for the first few windows with the club in terms of signings. And Lingard could be the perfect first recruit under PIF’s reign of the northeast side.
