Thibaut Courtois has aimed a cheeky dig at Tottenham Hotspur in regards to their deal for Gareth Bale.
Spurs re-signed the Welshman on a season-long loan from Real Madrid last month.
Bale joined the Spanish giants for a world-record £86 million fee in the summer of 2013 but his relationship with head coach Zinedine Zidane had soured in recent months, prior to the transfer.
And although former Chelsea goalkeeper Courtois has admitted that the 31-year-old is a ‘great player’, the Belgian took a swipe at Tottenham by claiming he didn’t join the best team in London.
The 28-year-old, a £31 million signing by Real two years ago, said to Cadena Ser: “I had a good relationship with Gareth and I wish him the best of luck this year, even if he’s not playing for the good London team. He is a great player.”
Are Tottenham the best team in London? Well, they’re narrowly having a better season than Chelsea.
Jose Mourinho’s side, who are above the Stamford Bridge club on goal difference after four g games, thumped Manchester United 6-1 prior to the international break, after eliminating the Blues from the Carabao Cup.
The Lilywhites host West Ham United in North London on Sunday for what is poised to be Bale’s comeback game, having been injured originally after returning to Spurs.
