According to the BBC, Leeds United are close to appointing Javi Gracia as their new manager.
This is a rumour that appears to be gathering pace at quite a rate. Tim Thornton states that the Spaniard is due to arrive in West Yorkshire on Tuesday morning, and it looks as though there’s a big chance that he’ll be the new Leeds boss.
There is reason to be sceptical about this move. Gracia was last seen in England being sacked by Watford and he’s not exactly had much success since then.
However, while Leeds fans may be a bit concerned about Gracia’s arrival, there’s one Leeds player who may well be very worried.
Indeed, Rodrigo Moreno could be rather concerned about the idea of Gracia coming into the club.
Gracia actually worked with Rodrigo at Valencia for a short period, but it seems that the ex-Watford boss wasn’t overly keen on his fellow countryman. After all, he was the manager who sold Rodrigo to Leeds.
Whether or not he sold Rodrigo because he didn’t rate him or because he didn’t fit into his tactical makeup is unknown, but it seems as though he’s not a player he was desperate to keep around at the Mestalla at that time.
Of course, Valencia did need to sell to raise cash at that point after taking a huge financial hit during the pandemic, but with the likes of Goncalo Guedes, Carlos Soler and Maxi Gomez in the squad at that point, Rodrigo wasn’t a necessary casualty at that point in time.
Whether or not Gracia decides to use Rodrigo at Leeds remains to be seen, but it’s fair to say that the striker may have had a better chance of playing if Leeds had appointed another manager who perhaps rates him more highly.
