Wout Weghorst has suggested that he is open to moving to Arsenal, with Newcastle United also reported to be interested in the Wolfsburg striker, as quoted in Vi.nl.

A report in Bild this week claimed that Arsenal and Newcastle are interested in signing Weghorst from Wolfsburg in the summer transfer window.

The report in the German publication stated that the Bundesliga club are willing to sell the Netherlands international for €35 million (£31.54 million).

The 27-year-old striker has said that he is open to a move to Arsenal, starting that a switch to the Gunners fits in with his plan.

Weghorst said about a potential Arsenal move, as quoted in Vi.nl: “That would be nice, wouldn’t it? That would be a good thing, of course that fits in the perfect picture.”

Good news for Arsenal?

Weghorst is a very good striker who scored 16 goals and provided three assists in the Bundesliga this season, and scored 17 goals and provided seven assists in the league for Wolfsburg during the 2018-19 campaign, according to WhoScored.

While Arsenal have two very good and established strikers in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette, if either of them leave this summer, then Weghorst would be a very suitable replacement.

Bad news for Newcastle United

The 27-year-old’s willingness to move to the Emirates Stadium bodes well for Arsenal, but it is a blow for Newcastle.

The Magpies do need to sign a new striker this summer, as Joelinton has struggled for goals this season, but Weghorst’s comments suggest that they may have to look elsewhere.
