Rodrigo has told Marca that a top-half finish in the Premier League would represent a brilliant season for Leeds United on their return to the big time.

This is Leeds’ first year back among England’s elite since being relegated in 2004.

And it’s fair to say that Marcelo Bielsa’s side have given a brilliant account of themselves thus far.

As of now, the Whites are 12th in the Premier League table and 12 points clear of the bottom three.

Barring a huge collapse during the second half of the campaign, Leeds will still be a top-tier side next season and Rodrigo – a £30 million summer signing – says that finishing 10th or better would be a very satisfactory first year back.

He said: “The great objective is to settle back in the Premier. We came from 15 or 16 years in a row in lower divisions and now we have found a way with the new owner to re-consolidate the club in the elite. I would like to finish in the top half of the table. Being rookies, if we ended up there, it would be a successful year.”

Rodrigo is absolutely spot-on here.

If Leeds finish in the top half then what brilliant foundations Bielsa will have laid for next season and beyond.

It’s unbelievable to think that United finished 13th in the Championship only two-and-a-half years ago, before the legendary Argentine was signed.

But he has been a remarkable achievement by the Elland Road club and finishing in the top half would set themselves up nicely for next year.
