Sadio Mane has revealed to Liverpool’s official website that from day one, Thiago was looking like a class act in training at Melwood.

The Reds announced a deal to sign the Spain international from Bayern Munich last week.

Thiago took part in a training session for Liverpool before then making his debut in the 2-0 win at Chelsea.

During that game, Thiago, who came on at half-time, broke a Premier League record by completing 75 passes – the most any player has made during a 45-minute stint on the field.

This is a player who won the Champions League just weeks before clinching a move to Anfield.

And Mane, a £30 million addition in 2016, has revealed that he noticed in training that he’s the sort of talent who can take Jurgen Klopp’s side to the next level.

He said: “I think not only the fans are excited to see Thiago. For sure, especially me and my teammates were really happy to have this kind of quality in our squad. It only makes us better. I can see from day one in training and the game against Chelsea what he is doing. And I’m sure he will take us to another level, for sure.”

This move for Thiago is exceptional, not least because Michael Edwards engineered it in such a way that means Liverpool can pay off the £20 million on a gradual basis, having stumped up only £5 million up front.

It’s a blinding piece of business on a football and financial level, and fans of the Premier League champions will hope to see him make a full debut in Monday’s visit of Arsenal.
