£30 million Newcastle United target Andrey Santos has opened up on his admiration for the ‘phenomenal’ Bruno Guimaraes amid reports that the Brazilian duo could soon be sharing a dressing room in the Premier League, speaking to Lance.
It’s testament to the depth at Brazil coach Tite’s disposal that the likes of Raphinha, Antony, Gabriel Jesus, Bremer and Ederson Moraes could all be handed a watching brief when the Selecao open their World Cup campaign against Serbia on Wednesday night.
One player who can be confident of a place in Tite’s star-studded XI, however, is Bruno Guimaraes; the maestro Magpie. The string-pulling, beat-laying totem of Tyneside.

Five of Guimaraes’ eight caps have come in 2022 alone. And who knows, one day he could be lining up alongside Andrey Santos, not only for his country but at club level too.
Newcastle United are big fans of Vasco da Gama wonderkid Andrey Santos
Newcastle, Vasco Noticias say, are willing to invest £30 million in Andrey Santos; an all-action, box-to-box teenage midfielder who’s eight goals in 33 games fired Vasco da Gama to promotion from Brazil’s second tier recently.
“They transformed me into midfielder. I was very happy, because I was closer to the goal,” explains the 18-year-old, who actually started out in defence but now models himself one some of the game’s most effective playmakers.
“I really like Casemiro, Bruno Guimaraes and Thiago Alcantara. These guys are phenomenal. I look up to them a lot.”
Santos is also on the radar of continental big-hitters Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain. There remains a quiet confidence on Tyneside, however, that the youngster will end up in the black-and-white of Newcastle. The Magpies have kept in touch with the Vasco da Gama bosses since the summer.
Santos, 90Min add, has been on Newcastle’s radar for over 12 months now.
“It is clear that football in Europe is much more advanced than here in Brazil,” he adds. “And every boy has the dream of playing in Europe. But I am calm about it, because I know that everything will turn out well.”
