Leeds made contact to sign Ayoze Perez during the January transfer window as Jesse Marsch aimed to improve his attack at Elland Road.

The £30m man was subject to an enquiry from the Whites – according to Ben Jacobs of CBS Sports – although a move failed to materialise and Leicester ended up loaning the Spaniard to Real Betis.

Now, Perez has done something that would have gone down very well had he been wearing a Leeds shirt.

What’s the story?

Well, the 29-year-old scored his first goal for Real Betis last night, against Manchester United of all sides.

Perez netted an equaliser to make it 1-1 at Old Trafford in the Europa League Round of 16 first leg after Marcus Rashford had given Manchester United the lead.

After five La Liga outings without a goal, the January Leeds target will have surely been delighted to finally break his duck for Real Betis, although the night ended on a sour note as Manchester United recorded a 4-1 win.

It was actually just Perez’s second goal all season – before moving to Real Betis on loan, he had only scored once in 13 appearances for Leicester.

Leeds could revisit Ayoze Perez interest

In our view, Leeds may revisit their pursuit of Ayoze Perez this summer.

The Spaniard’s contract with Leicester expires in July, so he would then be able to join a new side on a free transfer with the Foxes seemingly unlikely to extend his deal.

With a fellow Spaniard now at the helm in Javi Gracia – somebody who plays an industrial style of football in which a tireless forward like Perez would be appreciated – there may still be interest from Elland Road despite the sacking of Marsch.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as anything could happen this summer.
