Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Idrissa Gana Gueye has played down speculation linking him with a move to Wolverhampton Wanderers, telling Emedia that the talk is ‘just rumours’.
There were plenty of eyebrows raised on both sides of the Channel when reports this week suggested that a Senegal international could be sold by the newly-crowned Ligue 1 champions.
Gueye has been a huge hit since joining PSG from Everton in a £30 million deal last summer, after all.
His all-action, ball-winning style has added some much-needed balance to an often top-heavy team with the 30-year-old looking like the final piece in their Champions League-chasing jigsaw.
Le10 Sport claimed that Wolves were offering Gueye a return to the Premier League, with PSG seemingly aiming to fund a deal for Lazio playmaker Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.
But, according to the former Aston Villa man himself, a return to the Midlands is hardly on the cards.
“I’m used to these rumours. For each transfer window, it’s like that for me,” he says. “Even in January, six months after I arrived at PSG, I was already linked to Chelsea, so I’m used to it.

“Everything is going well for me at the club, and I am often in contact with the sporting director [Leonardo] and there was never any question of a departure. He never spoke to me about transfers or letting me go.
“So, to me, these are just rumours in the transfer market because there isn’t much happening at the moment.”
It was no secret that Gueye was desperate to join PSG, handing in a transfer request last January in order to force a move away from Goodison Park (Sky).
So who can blame him for fighting tooth and nail for his future at the Parc des Princes?
Wolves might be one of the most exciting and ambitious teams on the continent but, unless you’re joining a Real Madrid, a Barcelona or a Liverpool, anything other than PSG feels like a backwards step.
