Tottenham have made £20 million in player sales already.
Tottenham’s Moussa Sissoko in action with Wycombe Wanderers’ Dominic Gape
Tottenham Hotspur’s £30 million spend on Moussa Sissoko on deadline day was widely lambasted at the time, and the midfielder’s performances since have backed that up.
The French international has been unable to force his way into a starting role at Spurs, and the fee appears a huge waste of money.
The deal for Sissoko may be Levy’s fault in the first place, but he at least has ensured Tottenham remain on a near even keel financially.
Last week it was confirmed that Spurs have sold Nabil Bentaleb to German side Schalke, netting £16 million as a result.
The BBC reported a month earlier that Tottenham had earned £4.5 million from selling Tom Carroll to Swansea City.
Purely since signing Sissoko, Tottenham have made more than £20 million in player sales, and more may be set to follow this summer – perhaps from the former Newcastle fan himself if they can shift him.
Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy
Just one day before Sissoko was signed, Tottenham sold Ryan Mason for a staggering £13 million, an overly generous fee from the Tigers.
This clever dealing to get rid of three players Tottenham did not need, allowed them to take a gamble on Sissoko.
It has not panned out so far, but Tottenham are not struggling financially because of it, and fans will hope this means money will be available to splash out on further additions this summer – who Mauricio Pochettino can turn into key first team players.
