Tottenham Hotspur are keen on signing frustrated Manchester United defender Eric Bailly, reports The Mirror.

Bailly has fallen out of favour with Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho after a poor display in the 3-2 loss to Brighton last month.

United spent £30 million to sign Bailly from Villarreal and he adapted instantly to the Premier League in his debut season.

Still only 24, Bailly could be a steal for Tottenham if they can manage to land him.

He is a defender who is technically solid, enjoys the physical challenge of English football, and is a good reader of the game.

If Spurs could add him to their group of centre-backs boasting Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen and Davinson Sanchez, they will have the best collection of four in the league, or even anywhere in Europe.

Signing Bailly would give Tottenham extra insurance over Alderweireld’s ongoing contract wrangle, with the defender yet to commit to sign a new deal.

Whether it is possible or not, depends on Manchester United, and it would take a crazy decision from Old Trafford to let Bailly depart, especially for a top Premier League rival.

Bailly is a top defender, going through a bad spell in terms of a lack of opportunity and the required consistency regular game time brings.

Tottenham are right to want to test United’s commitment to the Ivory Coast international, and see if the Red Devils are too blind to see the error they would be making by letting him leave.
