Karim Benzema achieved a unique passing stat as Real Madrid thrashed FC Schalke last night.
Long term Arsenal transfer target Karim Benzema completed a unique achievement last night during Real Madrid’s demolition of FC Schalke in the Champions League.
The Frenchman produced a passing accuracy of 100% with every single one of the passes he attempted during the game finding their intended target. He also bagged a brace too.
Benzema has been suggested as the high profile striker who can come into the club as back up to and competition for Olivier Giroud in the first team, with stories linking him to the Gunners as far back as last summer.
It’s important to note that Benzema’s passing accuracy during the game is based on a lower total amount of passes (33) than many outfield players. For example, Luka Modric produced 85 passes in total during the game.
Benzema also produced five key passes during the game which was more than any other player on either side.
However, what it does suggest is that if Arsenal wanted to invest a reported fee of just above £20 million in the summer, Benzema has all of the characteristics to ensure that he fits in with Arsenal superbly.
Jese Rodriguez was the only other player from the two sides to hit the 100% accuracy mark but that was based on ten minutes off the bench and only four completed passes during that time.
The problem for Arsenal is that if Benzema keeps producing these sorts of stats over the rest of the season, it’s going to make Carlo Ancelotti all the more keen to keep him when the Italian is already a huge admirer of the French forward.
