Martin Odegaard has admitted that he was left angered by Arsenal teammate Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang last weekend.
Arsenal picked up a hard-fought 1-0 win over Watford at the Emirates Stadium.
And if not for Aubameyang, it would’ve been a lot less nervy for the Gunners faithful.
Not only did the Gabon international miss a penalty, but Aubameyang also cost Mikel Arteta’s side another goal.
Odegaard’s rifled shot was bound for the back of the net but Aubameyang – who was offside – poached it and the effort was chalked off.
The Norwegian playmaker, a £30 million signing this past summer, has struggled a little for consistency since joining the North Londoners on a permanent basis.
And Odegaard, speaking to media in his homeland, has conceded that he wasn’t best pleased with his teammate.
He told TV2: “It was a pity. I saw it nicely from the side, it was going in. I knew as soon as he touched it that he was offside. It was frustrating, but we won. If they had equalised, it would have been tougher.”
Hard to blame
Aubameyang is a player who eats, sleeps and breathes goals.
He was born to find the back of the net, evident by the fact he hit the 50-goal mark for Arsenal quicker than anyone in their history which, given the company, is quite an achievement.
And if something like Odegaard’s shot falls into his path, and he feels like he needs to make sure, he’s going to pounce and any striker would probably do the same.
That being said, the goal would’ve done far more for Odegaard’s confidence than Aubameyang’s because as mentioned, the former Real Madrid maestro has been up and down in recent months.
