Liverpool fans & Jürgen Klopp woke up to the news that FIFA would be changing the format of the Club World Cup from 2025 onwards.

The prestigious tournament – which Liverpool won back in 2019 – sees the winners of the UEFA Champions League battle against the champions of other continental competitions, such as the Copa Libertadores in South America.

Gianni Infantino – President of FIFA – has confirmed that the new Club World Cup will now be a 32-team tournament as opposed to just seven sides, and will also take place in the summer, rather than December when it is usually held.

After hearing the news, we believe Klopp will be furious.

What’s the story?

Well, the £307,692-a-week man has often complained about the fixture schedule.

Klopp complained that Liverpool would be kicking off the 2019/20 Premier League season despite playing the Champions League final just weeks before, the last game of the 2018/19 campaign.

The German was also unhappy at the timing of this season’s FA Community Shield, as his Liverpool side again found themselves involved in the last game of the prior campaign.

Now, Klopp will see his usual pre-season preparations ruined from 2025 onwards due to the new format of the FIFA Club World Cup, which we expect him to be angered by.

The 55-year-old often loses key players to injuries at Anfield, and given the importance of pre-season in professional football, the new FIFA Club World Cup could lead to even more fitness issues.

Jamie Carragher has already taken to Twitter to complain about Infantino’s decision, describing the move as “ridiculous” while also saying that players are “getting treated like cattle” by footballing organisations.

Klopp is yet to officially comment on the news, but we feel he will share the same viewpoint.

Liverpool & Klopp may not take part

It remains to be seen who Infantino wants to take part in his new 32-team FIFA Club World Cup, aside from the usual seven who are involved.

However, if Liverpool are chosen, we certainly wouldn’t be surprised to see Klopp organise a boycott of the event, like Carragher has suggested above.

After all, the fixture schedule is already packed to the brim – Infantino’s announcement’s has been a very unpopular one so far, to say the very least.
