Earlier today, we covered news from Calciomercato which claimed that Arsenal had submitted a bid for Raheem Sterling.

The Italian news outlet believe the Gunners have offered cash, and have also given Manchester City a choice of Alexandre Lacazette, Gabriel Martinelli or William Saliba.

Less than 24 hours after that news broke, Sterling has now been nominated for the most prestigious award in football – the Ballon d’Or.

What’s the story?

Well, the England international was among the first batch of nominees to be announced, along with Harry Kane and Karim Benzema.

It comes after the £300,000-a-week forward scored 14 goals and provided 12 assists in 49 appearances last season.

Sterling also scored three goals at EURO 2020 to help England reach the final.

Would Raheem Sterling suit Arsenal?

It may seem a highly ambitious move for the Gunners, but if Edu can get it done, Sterling would be a fantastic fit for Mikel Arteta’s style.

The Spaniard – just like Pep Guardiola – prefers his wingers to be inverted, and always attacking the box with their runs from out wide.

Sterling has flourished under Guardiola with 104 goals in 255 games for the ex-Barcelona boss.

However, he’s currently struggling to break into Manchester City’s starting XI following the arrival of Jack Grealish.

Sterling has started just two Premier League games this season.

Seeing as Arteta is trying to implement a similar style to Guardiola, we see no reason why the ex-Liverpool forward won’t fit in seamlessly at the Emirates Stadium.
