Tottenham Hotspur will need to strengthen in certain areas this summer.
Mario Mandzukic in action
Spurs have performed superbly well this season, and currently sit in second position in the Premier League table, just seven points adrift of league leaders Chelsea, but there is still one noticeable weak link in Mauricio Pochettino’s squad.
Vincent Janssen was brought to the club in the summer of 2016, for a fee believed to be in the region of £17 million, and was seen at the time as the perfect back-up option for first-choice striker Harry Kane.
The Dutchman has really struggled to prove himself as an able deputy for the England international, however, and Tottenham will surely need to add a striker of higher quality in the summer, to ensure that they remain competitive, should Kane face another prolonged period on the sidelines.
And an ideal option for them could be Juventus striker Mario Mandzukic.
The 30-year-old has been heavily linked with an exit from the Turin side this summer, with the likes of West Ham United and Everton both thought to be interested in obtaining his signature, according to talkSPORT.
With Champions League football on offer though, Spurs would surely hold a huge advantage in the pursuit of the Croatia international, should they decide to make a move.
Croatia’s Mario Mandzukic
Whilst Pochettino is known for his penchant for working with youngsters, and moulding them into the players he wants them to become, the addition of a mature, experienced winner could prove to be invaluable next season.
And the Juve striker could be just the man for the job. His ability to hold up the ball with his back to goal would make him a fantastic option for Spurs, if they wanted to mix up their tactics and playing style.
He is clinical in front of goal, and can play anywhere along the front-line. He would be the ideal back-up for Harry Kane, but equally could be used as part of a two man strike force, should Pochettino opt for a change in system.
The 30-year-old is still under contract with the Italian giants until the summer of 2019, so he will by no means be available on the cheap, but if Spurs genuinely want to progress, and challenge on all fronts, Mandzukic is the kind of player that they should now be looking to bring to the club, in order to join the elite band of clubs.
