Former Bayern Munich star Mario Basler believes Jurgen Klopp could raid the Bundesliga champions again and lure David Alaba to Liverpool, speaking to Sport1.
If reports are to be believed, the Premier League leaders are prioritising young, improving players ahead of the January transfer window with the likes of Pau Torres, Jules Kounde and Ozan Kabak lined up as potential Virgil van Dijk replacements.
But while Liverpool don’t often go above the age of 26 when signing new players, that is not to say they are unwilling to make an exception at times.
And, when a player like Alaba becomes available, it’s usually the right time to put your transfer policy to one side.
The nine-time Bundesliga champion is not only one of the finest centre-halves on the planet but also arguably it’s greatest left-back. As Austria fans will tell you, the six-time Austrian Footballer of the Year is also a dab hand in midfield.
According to BILD, Alaba has rejected a new contract worth a staggering £300,000-a-week at the Allianz Arena with his current deal expiring in the summer.
And AS believe Liverpool, two months after landing Thiago Alcantara, could steal another A-list superstar from FC Hollywood.

“Alaba might go to Klopp in the winter,” Basler says, suggesting that RB Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano could be the 28-year-old’s replacement.
“I could well imagine that (Upamecano) is a player who goes to Bayern next year, should the story with Alaba really end in such a way.
“I think they would get £30 million for (Alaba) during the winter break.”
£30 million for a player who has won pretty much everything in the game, can play in a multitude of positions and, at 28, has his best years ahead of him.
