West Ham United reportedly want to bring Jermain Defoe back to the club from Sunderland in January.

The Sun reported yesterday that West Ham will test Sunderland’s resolve with a £6 million bid for Jermain Defoe in January.

The Black Cats will surely do everything within their power to keep the 34-year-old at the Stadium of Light, although, as has proven to be the case so many times before in football, money talks.

If David Moyes is forced into selling Defoe, here are three West Ham players who he should consider demanding as part of the deal:

Sam Byram:

The young right-back is currently out injured, but is set to return to action over this next week.

He has struggled to establish himself at West Ham since his move from Leeds United earlier this year, mostly down to the fact that he has been given little chance to prove himself.

His quality is unquestionable, however, and the 23-year-old would help bolster Sunderland’s right-side of defence and midfield, what with his versatility.

Havard Nordtveit:

The 26-year-old Norwegian is another versatile player, and is comfortable playing in both defence and midfield.

He would provide great cover and competition for Jan Kirchhoff, and would give David Moyes a more physically imposing option in the middle of the park.

Antonio Martinez:

This would more than likely have to be a loan deal, what with the Spaniard being so highly-rated at West Ham.

The 19-year-old has been banging goals in for fun for the Hammers’ academy side this season, with an impressive record of 12 in 11.

Whilst the Premier League would undoubtedly represent a huge step up for Martinez, it would be an opportunity that he would no doubt relish.
