According to the Independent, Aston Villa are closing in on the signing of Matty Cash from Nottingham Forest.
Cash was transformed into an attacking right back by Sabri Lamouchi last season and has a bright future ahead of him.
But what impact would his potential arrival have on the players already at Villa Park?
We’ve picked out three who could be affected for a variety of reasons if Cash’s move did get over the line…
Frederic Guilbert
When fit, Guilbert was Dean Smith’s first choice right-back for much of last season.
He was a steady presence, not great at overlapping but also not putting a foot wrong very often at the back.
Smith’s interest in Cash would suggest the Frenchman would have a battle on his hands next season over his starting berth.
It’s up to him to respond to the challenge.

Ezri Konsa
Konsa was moved out to right-back at times last season but his best role is centre-half.
With greater depth on the right of defence, Konsa can focus on establishing himself next to Tyrone Mings next season.
It’s this writer’s view he has the ability to be far better than Mings, but moving from full-back to centre half doesn’t help young defenders.
He’s got a year of top flight football under his belt now and should kick on at the heart of Villa’s defence now.

Trezeguet
The Egyptian showed what he can do at the end of the season, helping drag Villa out of the mire.
With a year at Villa Park behind him, he should be set for further improvement this time around.
Cash overlapping him could make Villa’s right-hand side really threatening all of a sudden.
That has the makings of an exciting partnership if the deal for Cash is done.
