Rangers have made a perfect start to their Scottish Premiership campaign, taking an early lead in the race to stop Celtic making it ten in a row.

Steven Gerrard said last weekend that the summer recruitment drive isn’t over yet as he still wants at least one new arrival (Daily Record) to boost his side’s title bid.

As Gerrard’s former club Liverpool have shown better than anyone, there are some talented players who can be snapped up from relegated Premier League clubs in England.

We’ve picked out one from each of Norwich, Watford and Bournemouth that Gerrard should have his eye on.

Adam Smith

Alex Rae told the Scottish Sun in June he feels his old club need more cover in both full back positions and relegated Bournemouth man Smith can play left back or right back.

The former Tottenham man has four years of Premier League experience under his belt, where he has come up against some of the best wingers in the world.

Smith isn’t the type of signing who would get pulses racing, but he would be sensible and at 29, should be at the absolute peak of his powers.

Adam Idah

Teenage Norwich striker Idah is a serious talent, underlined by his FA Cup hat-trick against Preston in January.

At 6ft 3in, he’s an imposing figure despite his tender years and he needs the prospect of regular games.

Rangers could still do with added firepower, especially given the chequered injury record of new signing Kemar Roofe, and Idah could be the man.

Having represented the Republic of Ireland at every age group to Under 21 level, he could realistically target a senior call-up if he was playing regularly at Ibrox.

Nathaniel Chalobah

Chalobah is a hugely talented product of Chelsea’s academy, who is currently at Watford.

According to the Independent, Gareth Southgate has been an admirer for years, and gave Chalobah his England debut against Spain in 2018.

Chalobah hasn’t been able to get a run of games under his belt, partly due to injury, but his quality and physical attributes should mean he is capable of bossing matches in Scotland.

He would be an outstanding signing, and would likely relish learning under Gerrard, one of the best English midfielders of all time.
