Tottenham have been offered the chance to sign Watford captain Troy Deeney, according to the Daily Mail.
Spotrac claim Deeney earns £65,000 per week at Vicarage Road and Watford’s relegation has reportedly raised the prospect of a loan deal with Spurs.
We’ve got three reasons why he would be a good addition to the Tottenham ranks…
Jose Mourinho would love him
Deeney is outspoken and confident, giving absolutely everything for the cause having shown he can do the business in the top flight.
Jose Mourinho would absolutely love to have Deeney on his side – they would be kindred spirits.
There is a feeling that this Tottenham side is too nice for their manager’s liking and Deeney’s arrival would add greater backbone.
He’s a leader and perhaps Tottenham don’t have enough of those.
He’s already wound up the Arsenal fanbase
You only had to look through Twitter after Arsenal beat Watford 3-2 to seal their relegation on the final day of the season to see Gunners fans retain animosity towards Deeney.
His comments from 2017 – video above – about Arsenal’s lack of desire have not been forgotten on the red half of north London.
It would not be the worst thing in the world for Spurs to sign someone who already has a bit of needle with their oldest rivals.
Deeney’s presence at the next north London derby would add some extra spice.

He’s proven in the Premier League
How many strikers whose capabilities in the Premier League are proven will be available this summer?
There won’t be many. Deeney got ten top flight goals last season in a relegated side, despite suffering with injury (Transfermarkt).
Tottenham have struggled for so long to find a backup for Harry Kane.
Fernando Llorente was the most effective, and Deeney’s physical stature puts him in a similar mould.
The Spaniard made himself popular at Spurs by giving his all in every game, despite limited minutes, and Deeney could do similar.
