According to the Guardian, Ryan Sessegnon is a loan target for Ajax this summer.

The left-footed flier didn’t set the world alight in his first season at Tottenham, but has plenty of talent.

We’ve looked at three reasons why Spurs should loan Sessegnon to Ajax this summer…

Footballing education

There aren’t many better places for a young footballer to learn than Ajax.

Their youth coaching is legendary and it would be a fantastic football education for Sessegnon to spend a year there.

Spurs team-mates Davinson Sanchez and Toby Alderweireld could explain to Sessegnon the benefits of coming through at Ajax.

He would return to Tottenham with a different outlook on football, at a club who play an expansive, technical style.

Regular gametime

Sessegnon doesn’t immediately strike you as a Mourinho player.

The Portuguese generally has a preference for taller, physical types, and Sessegnon is smaller and more nimble.

If he were to spend the season at Spurs, he looks set for a backup role at left-back, although Dennis Cerkin has also emerged as competition there too.

At Ajax, given their willingness to play young players, Sessegnon would hope to play regularly.

Sessegnon stalled last season, partially due to not playing as regularly as he was at Fulham. Starting every week could reinvigorate him.

Playing abroad

England internationals Jadon Sancho and Mason Mount are two recent examples of youngsters playing abroad and furthering their reputation.

British players have traditionally been far too reluctant to go abroad, but that is changing with the new generation.

Getting that experience of a different culture, and needing to show the maturity to deal with living and succeeding in a foreign country can be invaluable.

Sessegnon could join a huge, historic club in Ajax. That brings its own pressure, as well as the challenges of settling in off the pitch.

For a player who has never played outside London, it could be the making of him.
