2017 was arguably the outstanding year of Harry Kane’s career so far.
Nobody scored more goals than the England captain’s 56 (BBC) across the calendar year, not even Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo.
After an interrupted 2019/20, we’ve picked out three reasons Kane looks set to come back to his very best form in 2020/21…
End of season form
Anyone who watched Kane rampage through Leicester on the counter attack last month saw a man who was firmly back to his best.
In fact, he showed a turn of pace he hasn’t often offered in his career, offering evidence he may well have come back better than ever.
It would be foolish to get too excited about five goals in three games at the end of the season, but if Kane kicks off 2020/21 in similar form, nobody will be able to live with him.

One eye on the Euros
Looking at Kane’s lack of sharpness in the immediate aftermath of his return in June, it’s clear he wouldn’t have been fully fit to lead the line for England at the European Championship had they taken place as normal this summer.
Kane may view that as a lucky escape, and will be determined to go into this summer’s rearranged tournament in the same form which saw him scoop the World Cup Golden Boot in 2018.
England have a huge opportunity with so many matches due to be played at Wembley and Kane’s goals will likely be central to any success.
How can the prospect of lifting a major international trophy on home soil not motivate Kane?

Firing Tottenham back up
As per the Telegraph, Kane dropped his biggest hint yet back in March he would consider a Tottenham exit if the club doesn’t continue to improve.
But Kane is under contract until 2024 (Guardian), and in the current financial climate, he looks unlikely to be going anywhere.
That means its on him to fire Tottenham back up the league and towards the trophies he wants to win.
Kane has responded to every challenge put in front of him during his career and will relish the responsibility.
