3 reasons Everton should give Moise Kean extra year to prove quality

Moise Kean arrived at Everton last summer to plenty of excitement.

He netted just two Premier League goals from 29 appearances (Transfermarkt), and struggled to live up to the hype.

Some may have already written him off but we’ve got three reasons Everton should keep the faith for at least another season…

He’s already fired up

Kean gave an interview to Everton’s official website not long after the last game of the season, outlining his desire to improve next time around.

The young hitman could have hidden away after a poor first season and if he wasn’t committed to the club, he would have done.

He knows he hasn’t been good enough and seems already set on ensuring that next season is better.

The relatively short break between campaigns means it’s imperative he hits the ground running in pre-season, but the early signs are good.

Carlo Ancelotti

It’s too simplistic to say that having an Italian manager will mean that the young Italian striker will start to fire.

But Marco Silva, who brought Kean to the club, seemed confused in the Liverpool Echo during November about the forward’s best position.

Ancelotti should have a better knowledge of Kean and his time at Juventus, and working under a legendary manager from his native country should inspire the hitman.

Kean referenced Ancelotti’s faith in him as one of the factors that is driving him on for next season – the relationship between player and manager should help.

Second seasons are often better

Players who have been written off after one season can come back stronger second time around once they’ve had a chance to settle in.

Fred was written off at Manchester United this time last year, but after a period of adaptation, impressed a lot more last season.

Mateo Kovacic is another who performed far better last time around, with a campaign at Chelsea under his belt.

For a young player coming to a new league and country, it’s not easy. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see Kean improve now he’s had a year to adjust.
