Rangers said goodbye to manager Graeme Murty this week and these three players will feel his Ibrox exit more than most.

Rangers manager Graeme Murty is seen during the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match between Rangers and Aberdeen at Ibrox Stadium on January 24, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Graeme Murty’s spell as Rangers manager came to an abrupt end this week as the coach was dismissed from his role at Ibrox.

Talk had already turned to who will replace Murty and whether they will take over immediately or before the end of the season.

There is still work to do for Rangers’ players and some will feel Murty’s exit from the Glasgow giants more than others.

Here is a look at three players who can be considered losers from Murty’s departure…

Daniel Candeias

Candeias of Rangers vies with Christie Elliott of Partick Thistle during the Betfred League Cup Quarter Final at Firhill Stadium on September 19, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Portuguese winger Daniel Candeias has defied the critics who saw him as just a journeyman signing along for the ride at Rangers.

He has been one of the club’s best players and signed a contract extension as reward for his eight goals and 13 assists.

Candeias has been a regular under Murty and he could see his importance to the side wane under a new coach.

The 30-year-old flopped against Celtic at the weekend and must prove himself from scratch.

Russell Martin

Russell Martin of Rangers hits the post with a header during the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match between Rangers and Kilmarnock at Ibrox Stadium on March 17, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Murty used his old contacts at Norwich City to bring in defender Russell Martin on loan in January.

Martin’s form has been poor but despite this Murty has persisted with playing him.

Murty’s departure hurts his chances of signing a permanent contract and his place in the team could also be at risk as the season winds down.

James Tavernier

James Tavernier of Rangers controls the ball during the Betfred League Cup Quarter Final at Firhill Stadium on September 19, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Tavernier has seen himself promoted to captain in recent weeks but his performances on the pitch have remained inconsistent.

His spell wearing the armband could well be over under a new coach and his place in the team deserves to come under scrutiny.

The Mirror. reported at the weekend that Tavernier was attracting transfer interest and Murty’s dismissal could be the catalyst for his exit.
