Derby games are big regardless of scenarios, but Wolves and Villa are both clubs in a rebuilding process. They both have foreign owners, and they both have extremely expectant fan bases. The similarities between the two makes the prospect of this clash a big one, and with so much at stake you just know the atmosphere is going to be electric. Villa will have to be on form to come away from Molineux with the win.
Newcastle United – Away (February 18)

In terms of stature, the double relegation of Newcastle & Villa gave a lot of prestige to the Championship this season. They are two clubs that belong in the top flight and their reputations speak for themselves. If Villa want to know where they stand in comparison to the best teams in the league, this game will be a huge indication of that. One way or another, Villa will get answers at St James’ Park.
Birmingham City – Home (April 23)

The Second City derby. It simply does not get any bigger than that for Birmingham City and Aston Villa, and Bruce’s men have to fancy their chances. The odd appointment of Zola coupled with a hostile fanbase has certainly unsettled Birmingham, but by the time this game rolls around who knows what could have changed. It’s going to be one of the games of the season, and that’s a testament to both sides.
