The former Wolverhampton Wanderers and Norwich City manager is favourite to succeed Carlos Carvalhal at Sheffield Wednesday.

Former Wolverhampton Wanderers and Norwich City manager Paul Lambert is the current odds-on favourite to succeed Carlos Carvalhal at Sheffield Wednesday.
And with January already upon us, HITC Sport has picked out three players the Scot could target should he arrive at Hillsborough…
Russell Martin (Norwich City)

Wednesday have been uncharacteristically poor at the back this season, while Martin has found himself frozen out by new Norwich boss Daniel Farke of late. The 31-year-old, who continues to captain the Canaries, was brought to Carrow Road by Lambert eight years ago and has gone onto make more than 300 appearances for his current employers – 125 of which arrived in the Premier League. He has also won 29 caps for Scotland.
Connor Mahoney (AFC Bournemouth)

A new winger could also feature highly on Wednesday’s list this winter, and with funds tight a loan deal could be the Owls’ best bet. Mahoney, who made his Championship bow for Blackburn while Lambert was manager, would surely jump at the chance to play regular football, having failed to make a single appearance for new club Bournemouth this season.
Ben Marshall (Wolverhampton Wanderers)

The obvious candidate – Marshall has already been linked with a move to Hillsborough this winter (Daily Star), having fallen out of favour at Wolves. The 26-year-old, who also plays as a winger, shone on loan for Wednesday during the 2011-12 season, and has played for Lambert at two clubs – Blackburn and Wolves.
Would Lambert be a good appointment for Sheffield Wednesday?
