Peterborough manager Grant McCann latest to be considered by Barnsley – what about Bristol Rovers, Charlton and Shrewsbury bosses as well?
Barnsley continue their search for a new manager following Paul Heckingbottom’s departure to take over at Leeds United and appear to now be looking in League One.
The Telegraph reports that Peterborough United boss Grant McCann is being considered due to his reputation of developing young talent, in particular the impressive performances of Marcus Maddison and Jack Marriott.
Yet are they some others from the third tier of English football that the Tykes should take a look at?
Darrell Clarke
Linked with the then vacant Leeds position in the summer of 2016, as reported by Sky Sports at the time, Clarke has built an impressive reputation for himself at Bristol Rovers.
The 40-year-old took the Gas from the National League to League One with successive promotions and has established their place there since.
Paul Hurst
The big surprise in the division this term has been the form of Shrewsbury Town, who after nearly being relegated last season are currently second behind only Wigan Athletic.
Against the odds, Hurst has built a team of promotion contenders out of shrewd non-league signings and putting faith in players cast aside by other clubs.
Karl Robinson
Still only 37-years-old, Robinson is approaching eight years in management having taking his first job at MK Dons – who he got promoted into the Championship in 2015 – back in May 2010.
Now at Charlton Athletic, the Mirror reports that Barnsley have placed the Addicks chief on their shortlist of potential replacements for Heckingbottom.
