Newcastle United are interested in making a move for Leeds United star Charlie Taylor, report The Journal.

The Toon play Leeds this weekend, and have reportedly been scouting the left-back for the past 18 months.

Leeds will not want to lose their current player of the year, but with contract set to expire next summer, they may be forced to cash in as they did with Sam Byram a year ago.

Here are three Newcastle players Leeds could demand in a player plus cash deal…

Daryl Murphy

Leeds need another striker to add depth behind Chris Wood and Marcus Antonsson, and Daryl Murphy is a proven goalscorer at Championship level.

He only signed for Newcastle in the summer but has been sidelined with injury for much of the campaign, playing for the club only once, although is close to a return.

Newcastle are getting on just fine without him thanks to Dwight Gayle and Aleksandr Mitrovic’s superb form, and might want to consider cashing in on the veteran, if it is a condition of sale which allows them to beat Premier League teams to sign Taylor.

Rob Elliot

Rob Green is not a long term solution in goal for Leeds United at 36, and they will have to start exploring alternatives, with Marco Silvestri’s future also uncertain.

One possibility could be to sign Newcastle stopper Rob Elliot, who at 30 has plenty left in him at a top level.

He is behind Karl Darlow, Matz Sels and Tim Krul in the pecking order, but is a Republic of Ireland international who would have been first choice at Euro 2016 had it not been for injury.

Massadio Haidara

Losing left-back Charlie Taylor would be a blow for Leeds, although they do have the promising Tyler Denton waiting in the wings for his opportunity.

One way to lessen the pressure on Denton and decrease the gamble, would be to acquire a left-back in return, namely Massadio Haidara, whose chances at Newcastle would be hampered by Taylor’s arrival.

Haidara himself is just 23 and has plenty of time to kick on, and has experience playing Premier League and Europa League football.
