The former Middlesbrough is said to have held talks about replacing Paul Lambert at Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Former Middlesbrough boss Aitor Karanka has held talks about replacing Paul Lambert at Wolverhampton Wanderers, The Sun reports [16 May, page 52].
Lambert is expected to leave Molineux in the near future, following an alleged dispute with owners Fosun International regarding the club’s transfer policy.
It is claimed that Wolves again want super-agent Jorge Mendes to oversee their summer recruitment drive, despite his raft of 2016 signings largely flattering to deceive.
But with Karanka a client of the Portuguese, could he be given some leeway if appointed at Molineux?
Here are three Middlesbrough players the Spaniard could target if so:
Fabio da Silva
Neither Silvio nor Cameron Borthwick-Jackson have been able to make left-back their own this season and both look set to leave Molineux when their contracts expire this summer. Fabio’s deal has a year to run, meanwhile, and Boro may not stand in his way should an offer come in.

Bernardo Espinosa
Centre-backs Richard Stearman and Mike Williamson could also be on their way out of Wolves this summer, while Espinosa will be keen to secure more game time next season. Assuming he’s not wanted at Boro – the expected departures of Calum Chambers and Ben Gibson could determine that – a move to Molineux may appeal.

Cristhian Stuani
The number 9 Wolves could have done with for much of the past campaign, Stuani’s Riverside future will likely depend on the extend to which Boro add to their front line this summer. One suspects Karanka would be keen to snap up the Uruguayan if he’s available.
