3 former players Rafa Benitez could bring to Everton

The Newcastle United supremo has been linked with the managerial job at Everton.

As Ronald Koeman’s future as Toffees boss continues to mount in uncertainty, Rafa Benitez’s name as a potential replacement keeps cropping up, with the Spaniard on the Everton hierarchy’s wanted list, according to the Sun.

If the Dutchman continues to struggle at Goodison Park, it will surely only be a matter of time until he is given his marching orders, and if the current Newcastle boss was to take the reigns at Everton, it would be quite the story, considering his affiliation with Liverpool.

Here are three of Benitez’s former signings who he could bring to Goodison Park, should he be named as the new Everton manager…

Kalidou Koulibaly:

Rafa signed the Senegal international during his time in charge of Napoli for just £7 million in 2014, and he has since gone on to become one of Europe’s most highly sought-after centre-backs.

Standing at 6ft 2in, the powerful defender has all of the attributes necessary to be a success in the Premier League, and with Everton’s defence ageing, he would be the ideal addition to the Blues squad.

Jose Callejon:

The 30-year-old Spaniard was also signed by Benitez for Napoli, and the tricky winger would be a superb acquisition to the Everton setup.

He registered 14 goals and 12 assists in 37 Serie A outings last season, and has already picked up where he left off last term with four goals and two assists in eight league outings for Napoli this time around.

Duvan Zapata:

The 26-year-old Colombian was signed by Benitez in the summer of 2013, and has proven himself to be a reliable forward, performing to high levels on a consistent basis.

Zapata is quick along the ground, a capable finisher, and possesses a tireless work-rate – all prerequisites for a striker moving to the Premier League.

All three of the above mentioned names would strengthen the current Everton squad, but only time will tell if Benitez will even get the chance to sign them for the Toffees.
