Rangers caretaker – and former Norwich City coach – Murty will remain at Ibrox until the summer.

Rangers caretaker manager Graeme Murty will remain at Ibrox until the summer, the club confirmed on Friday.
As a result, Murty will now have the final say on any transfer business the Gers wish to conduct in January, with Mark Allen expected to lead the Glasgow side’s recruitment.
Presumably though, the former Scotland defender will also be able to make his own recommendations, so could any of the following ex-colleagues join him at Rangers?
Chris Solly [Charlton Athletic]

The right-back was Murty’s understudy during a brief spell at Charlton in 2009, but has gone on to play 250 times for the Addicks, who are struggling to get out of League One. Rangers are by no means desperate in Solly’s position, although upgrading Lee Hodson – a rumoured Charlton target earlier this year – wouldn’t be the worst thing, and could allow James Tavernier to move further upfield, where he’s arguably at his best.
Russell Martin [Norwich City]

The Scotland centre-back was a regular during Murty’s two years as Norwich youth coach, but has found himself frozen out by new boss Daniel Farke, whose side have allowed other high profile stars to leave in cut-price deals this year – Rangers’ Graham Dorrans being one of them. Summer signings Bruno Alves and Fabio Cardoso have been linked with moves away from Ibrox this winter, and Martin would be a solid replacement for either.
Ben Godfrey [Norwich City]

A player who arrived at Norwich in Murty’s final year there, and played under his fellow Yorkshireman in the Canaries’ Under-18s. Currently impressing on loan at League One Shrewsbury Town, the defensive midfielder could be a decent option for Rangers when his temporary deal expires next month. The Gers are currently short there, following Dorrans’ injury.
