England’s under-20 team are celebrating winning the World Cup after beating Venezuela at the weekend.

It is England’s first World Cup win at any level since 1966, and is hugely promising for the future of football in this country.

Leeds United fans watched wondering what might have been as former club captain Lewis Cook led the young Lions to victory.

The Championship side don’t stand much chance of re-signing Lewis Cook any time soon, but with many of the squad struggling for regular club football there may be opportunities to make loan moves.

Here are three under-20 heroes Leeds should consider trying to sign on loan for the season…

Adam Armstrong

Newcastle United striker Adam Armstrong had a prolific spell at Coventry two seasons ago and featured regularly for Barnsley last season on loan.

His chances at Newcastle are likely to be limited as they add new faces after winning promotion to the Premier League.

The Toon are even considering loaning in Chelsea forward Tammy Abraham, and Armstrong would be an ideal alternative to Chris Wood at Leeds.

Fikayo Tomori

Promising centre-back Fikayo Tomori may never live down his own goal against Guinea, but he recovered well in Korea and was a key part of England’s success.

Tomori spent the latter part of last season on loan at promotion winners Brighton and Hove Albion and so like Armstong already has Championship experience under his belt.

Chances at Chelsea are going to be limited for Tomori, and Leeds need a new centre-back after missing out on Kyle Bartley who appears set to stay at Swansea.

Hadi Sacko signed permanently at Leeds after a mixed loan spell, but few fans are convinced the winger is going to be a huge difference maker.

Leeds need reinforcements in wide areas and Liverpool prospect Sheyi Ojo is a true game changer.

He was terrific in England’s semi-final victory and Leeds should be going all out to try and get him in on loan for the year if Liverpool cannot commit to giving him regular action.
