Remy Cabella was instrumental in the final third as the Magpies drew with Hull City on Saturday.

It was Papiss Cisse that stole the headlines at St James’ Park this weekend.

The Senegalese striker was introduced by boss Alan Pardew when Newcastle United were 2-0 down against Steve Bruce’s Hull side. By the time Cisse was done, the home side had fought back to 2-2 and earned a valuable, morale-boosting point.

But it was another man that starred statistically for Pardew’s side, despite not scoring.

Indeed, as Opta stats show, Remy Cabella shone in the final third for the Magpies, completing 30 final-third passes – more than anyone else in the Premier League on Saturday.

The Frenchman also created three chances and won three dribbles, while making 55 accurate passes.

Another plus for Newcastle comes from the fact that Moussa Sissoko and Cheick Tiote, who registered a classy assist for Cisse’s first goal, were also in the top five final-third passers on Saturday. Sissoko, too, created three chances and won three dribbles.

Cabella, though, impressed in a further area…

Yes, the 24-year-old also took more shots than anyone else in the Premier League, as well, managing a 50 per cent shooting accuracy, as three of his shots hit the target.

Cabella’s shooting received some criticism on Match of the Day – but the Frenchman did test Allan McGregor twice and will no doubt rediscover his finishing touch if he continues to find himself in the right areas to shoot.

It was certainly a performance full of potential from Cabella, then, who could finally be settling in to life at St James’ Park. Should he continue to create so many chances, make so many passes in the final third and take so many shots at goal, he will only become more of a nuisance for opposition defences.
