The figure is a relative bargain for a defender of Alderweireld’s quality, half the price Manchester City paid for John Stones this summer.
27-year-old Alderweireld appears happy at Tottenham and his contract runs until 2020, but this news could see the North London side deluged with enquiries which they would be powerless to resist.

City’s investment in John Stones was a sign of their desperation to solve problems in their backline, but it has been clear to see that the England ace is far from the finished product.
Signing Alderweireld would buy Stones time and take the pressure off, and solve problems created by the Spurs ace’s injury prone compatriot Vincent Kompany.
The £25 million would be a drop in the ocean for cash rich City, who Alderweireld helped shut out at White Hart Lane earlier this season.
Manchester United
Manchester United’s lack of defensive options have seen them relying on forgotten man Phil Jones in recent weeks with Eric Bailly out injured.

Jose Mourinho is unconvinced by Chris Smalling, and an Alderweireld-Bailly partnership would make the Red Devils rock solid at the back.

If any of these three sides need a top class central defender more than the others, then it is Jurgen Klopp’s top heavy Liverpool.

Liverpool cannot compete financially with United or City for mega stars, but with Alderweireld’s price capped by his release clause, they should go all out to try and sign him up.
