Leeds and Nottingham Forest stars are among those Everton should consider instead of Aston Villa forward.
Aston Villa’s Jonathan Kodjia celebrates
Everton are interested in signing Aston Villa forward Jonathan Kodjia, The Mirror reports today (10/4 p49).
Kodjia has been prolific for Villa this season since his big money move to from Bristol City, and is seen as integral to their future success.
Villa have no financial need to sell, backed by big money owner Tony Xia, and Kodjia would need to force through a move to make it happen.
Here is a look at three Championship alternatives Everton should pursue…
Ben Brereton (Nottingham Forest)
Nottingham Forest’s Ben Brereton in action
Brereton is Forest’s breakout star this season, making a big impact for the first team since stepping up from under-23 level.
The 17-year-old won the EFL Apprentice of the Year award last night as recognition for the first team impact he has made.
Everton have shown a desire to sign the Football League’s best young talents, previously adding Mason Holgate and Ademola Lookman.
Brereton is an exciting prospect and Forest have shown previously they will sell at the right price.
Chris Wood (Leeds)
Leeds United’s Chris Wood celebrates
If Everton are looking for a replacement for Romelu Lukaku, Chris Wood could become a candidate.
The Leeds United striker has shown he is capable of leading the line, bagging 25 Championship goals this season.
Everton’s chances will depend on Leeds missing out on promotion, at which point the Yorkshire side will find themselves having to fend off interest. The Toffees have the money available to try and put together a tempting offer.
Zach Clough (Nottingham Forest)
Nottingham Forest’s Zach Clough scores from the penalty spot
The second of two Nottingham Forest players Everton should consider, Zach Clough has been linked to Everton previously.
The Sun reported last year that Everton were considering moving for Clough when he was at Bolton, but it was Forest who made the push to sign him.
His form at Forest is unlikely to deter his suitors, making a seamless transition back to Championship football.
