Crystal Palace should consider the following Brentford, Cardiff City and Sheffield Wednesday players.
Crystal Palace’s search for a Premier League point will continue into matchweek eight, after Saturday’s 4-0 defeat at Manchester United.
Should the Eagles fail to turn things around soon, they may have to start planning for life back in the Championship and looking towards the second tier for January recruits may not be the worst of ideas.
Here are three Roy Hodgson’s side should certainly consider:
Daniel Bentley (Brentford)
Brentford were forced to pay Southend United more than £1 million in compensation for Bentley last year, despite the goalkeeper having only spent one season above League Two. The 24-year-old has adapted well to the step up in quality and is surely destined to play Premier League football later in his career. Palace must address their goalkeeping situation soon and Bentley could be the ideal long-term recruit.
Junior Hoilett (Cardiff City)
If Palace do go down, there’s little chance of them holding onto Wilfried Zaha. But pace and end product such as his can prove an expensive combination. Therefore, a player like Hoilett, whose contract expires at the end of this season, should be seriously considered by Hodgson. The 27-year-old has scored three goals and assisted four in 11 league appearances since the start of August.
Gary Hooper (Sheffield Wednesday)
Palace are desperate for strikers and on current form there are few outside of the top flight who are better than Hooper. The 29-year-old has scored seven in seven for the Owls, impressing too with both his link- and hold-up play. He’d be tough to prise away from Hillsborough, but may fancy one last shot at the Premier League – as well as a return south.
