Reported Celtic target David Turnbull has suggested to The Scotsman that he will not leave Motherwell in the summer transfer window.

The Scottish Sun reported in April that Turnbull remains on the radar of Scottish Premiership giants Celtic.

The report stated that the 20-year-old midfielder’s move to the Hoops in the summer of 2019 fell through due to a knee problem.

According to The Scotsman, the transfer would have seen Motherwell get paid £3.25 million in transfer fees.

However, the youngster has suggested that he does not plan to leave Motherwell this summer, as he wants to repay the club for sticking to him during his injury spell this past season.

As reported by BBC Sport in March, Turnbull signed a new contract with Motherwell which will see him stay at the club until 2022.

Turnbull told The Scotsman: “A lot of people will be asking that question and there will be a lot of spotlight on me to perform.

“But that will push me even more and make me try to prove to everyone that I am the same player and can still perform at the same level.”

The youngster added about his new contract: “I wanted to repay them for what they did for me.”

Good plan?

Turnbull is only 20 years of age, and the chance to play for Celtic has not gone away.

After all, the Hoops could come back for him in next few years if he continues to progress and develop.

It was really great of the midfielder to commit his future to Motherwell earlier this season, as it was an acknowledgement of the club standing by him during tough times.
