If the international break was meant to provide Tottenham Hotspur’s Davinson Sanchez with a boost in confidence then it has not gone to plan.

Sanchez has been left out of Tottenham’s team recently, with Jose Mourinho favouring other options.

However, he was handed a start for Colombia last night, as he finally was trusted with some game time.

Unfortunately for the Spurs defender, his nation were battered by Ecuador, with Sanchez coming in for criticism after the game.

Ecuador beat Sanchez’s side 6-1, with the Tottenham defender not covering himself in glory in defence.

And El Tiempo gave him just a three out of 10 rating, saying: “It was expected that with his return the defense would regain security, but between his doubts and the lack of a filter, the game ended very badly for him.”

Sanchez’s off-colour displays have been happening far too frequently at Tottenham recently, and Mourinho is unlikely to be convinced to put the central defender back into his side, after what he saw last night.

The 24-year-old may now be left out of Spurs’s squad again at the weekend, with the Lilywhites due to take on Manchester City.
