Everton playmaker James Rodriguez has been hammered by the Colombian press after his performance against Ecuador last night.

Rodriguez was part of the Colombia side that lost 6-1 in World Cup qualifying, and despite scoring he was not saved from criticism.

The Everton man is so often his country’s talisman, but he failed to get going last night.

And El Tiempo wrote that he had his worst game ever in a Colombia shirt.

“He was coming from not weighing in the match against Uruguay, but this may be his worst match with the Colombian National Team, by far,” they said.

“He only appeared to collect the penalty that meant the partial 4-1. What is James’s problem? It does not adapt to the system, it does not weigh, it does not feel. Three.”

Everton will be hoping that Rodriguez’s poor display does not affect his club form.

The former Real Madrid man has been excellent since his arrival at Everton, with his performances making Carlo Ancelotti’s side a major attacking threat.

Everton are under pressure to get the three points at the weekend, as they have stumbled in recent weeks.

The Toffees were leading the way in the Premier League, but have now failed to win any of their last four, and take on Fulham next.
