Liverpool claimed to want Andre Gomes from Barcelona.
The Spanish side are battling to persuade the Reds to sell Coutinho, and are likely to have to pay a staggeringly high fee in order to do so.
It is claimed Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is a big admirer of Andre Gomes, who signed for Barcelona from Valencia for £29 million last summer.

He has struggled to win over supporters since signing, starting only 17 of their La Liga games last season.
The 24-year-old Portugal international would improve Liverpool’s midfield options, but he is not worth them selling Coutinho just to get him.
Andre Gomes of FC Barcelona conducts the ball during the La Liga match between FC Barcelona and Real Sociedad de Futbol at Camp Nou stadium on April 15, 2017 in Barcelona, Spain.
If Jurgen Klopp really is enamoured with him and Coutinho pushes for an exit then Liverpool may have to consider it but there is no need for the Reds to initiate a move.
Their priority should be another more creative midfielder if Coutinho leaves, and of course another centre-back, a position they have been struggling to fill all summer.
