Rangers were dealt a bit of a blow on Friday when Jack Wilshere appeared to rule out a move to Ibrox.

The 28-year-old midfielder is available on a Bosman and there’s been tentative links surrounding a switch to the Gers, who are managed by Steven Gerrard.

But the former Arsenal and West Ham United midfielder, who idolises the Rangers manager, said on talkSPORT yesterday that he might be tempted to go abroad, to a Spain or an Italy.

That being said, there’s a new report which claims the England international would consider a move to Glasgow.

According to PA Sport, Rangers is certainly an ‘option’ for Wilshere if Gerrard were to make a move, but the report added that no contact had been made.

It adds that Walter Smith wanted the then-prodigious talent at the club back in 2010, only for him to join Bolton Wanderers instead.

Wilshere’s career has been blighted by injury and he managed only six Premier League appearances for the Irons since joining two years ago, before his contract was terminated earlier this month.

But in terms of talent, Wilshere has a lot of attributes to his game and here’s what Gary Neville told Sky Sports about him back in 2017: “He’s the best English midfield player by a street. He could play for any single team in this country and live in that team. He could play for any single team in Europe and live in that team. He’s that good.”
