Newcastle United are expected to be extremely busy this summer.
Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez
The Magpies enjoyed a successful Championship season, and secured promotion to the Premier League fairly comfortably in the end.
The hard work starts now for Rafa Benitez, however, and he will have to strengthen his options accordingly, if he is to guide his Newcastle side to a successful campaign in the top flight.
One particular area of the Toon’s squad that the Spaniard undoubtedly has to improve is in the central striking position, and a useful option could be Watford’s Troy Deeney.
The 28-year-old has been heavily linked with an exit from Vicarage Road this summer, and St James’ Park could be the ideal destination for the Hornets striker.
He is powerfully built, and would be an ideal strike partner for Dwight Gayle, if Benitez wishes to play with two up front next term.
Deeney’s wealth of experience would be a great asset to the Magpies, and his presence amongst the squad would undoubtedly enhance their chances of staying in the division.
He has scored 10 goals and chipped in with four assists in 34 Premier League outings this term, but it is his overall contribution to the team that makes him such a vital player.

His work-rate for a striker is second to none, and Benitez would surely relish the chance of having someone of the Watford hitman’s ilk in and amongst his team.
Deeney’s future at Watford remains unclear, and reports of a fall-out between him and Walter Mazzarri have neither been denied nor confirmed by either player or manager.
And Newcastle should take advantage of that uncertainty by making a swoop for the former Walsall man this summer.
