Liverpool’s Harry Wilson is still working his way back to fitness.

Prolific Liverpool talent Harry Wilson scored two goals last night in an under-23 win over West Ham.

Wilson’s performance was hailed by supporters, with a query why he was involved in Monday’s game and not being held back for the Carabao Cup fixture this evening for Liverpool.

The Welsh wonderkid however is simply not ready from a fitness perspective, having missed part of pre-season with injury.

Wilson told Liverpool’s official website: “I missed a large chunk of pre-season through injury, which was disappointing for me, and tonight was only my second 90 minutes since May, so for me it’s about getting minutes and getting strong again, and scoring goals.

“Last season was a great one for me and I needed it after missing a large part of the previous year.

“This season is about improving myself as a player and trying to get into the first-team squad, because that’s what I want to do at the end of the day.”

Wilson is an outstanding talent who incredibly made his Wales international debut at just 16-years-old.

He is now 20 and needs to really kick on – his 28 goals for the under-23s last season indicates he is not too far away.

Manager Jurgen Klopp is being cautious with him, perhaps a little too careful, but given his lack of gametime recently, holding him back makes sense.
