Tottenham Hotspur defender Emerson Royal has admitted reading major criticism from Brazil fans during the international break.
Emerson Royal is trying to ignore criticism from Brazil supporters as he head backs to Tottenham Hotspur.
Tottenham have had a number of players featuring for their countries in this international break.
From Son Heung-min continuing to shine for South Korea to Cristian Romero making history with Argentina, Spurs have had players all over the world.
Emerson Royal comments on fan criticism with Brazil
Whilst Romero will be in jubilant mood following Argentina’s 1-0 win over Brazil, the same can’t be said of Emerson Royal.
The Spurs right back – who cost around £26million in 2021 – started in Brazil’s defeat, their first-ever home World Cup qualifying loss.
Emerson hasn’t really been starting for Tottenham this season yet was handed a start against Argentina by under-fire boss Fernando Diniz.
Diniz has carved out a big reputation in Brazil having brought innovative and slightly wild tactics to Fluminense, who won the Copa Libertadores earlier this month.
Those tactics haven’t really meshed with the national team yet and Emerson has been receiving criticism for his performances.
Speaking to Globo Esporte, Emerson noted that he has seen Brazil fans giving him ‘a lot of criticism’, stating that he doesn’t even know how to play football.
Emerson admitted that he doesn’t listen to this kind of criticism and called for patience from Brazil fans as they attempt to learn Diniz’s methods.
“I receive a lot of criticism, I saw the fans saying this and that… that I didn’t know how to play ball,” said Emerson. “I’m not one to listen. It’s a process. There are many new players, practically the entire team changed. We have a different style of play, it’s not the same as Tite’s.”
“The fans have to understand this. It’s not easy to play like that. Few teams in the world play like this. What Diniz has been doing with the Seleção is a very difficult thing,” he added.

Will Emerson play for Tottenham this weekend?
Emerson will have faced a long flight back to London but Tottenham at least have until Sunday to asses their players.
Aston Villa are the opponents for Spurs this weekend and Ange Postecoglou will be weighing up who to start against Unai Emery’s side.
Pedro Porro has cemented himself as Tottenham’s first-choice right back this season, featuring ahead of Emerson.
The former Barcelona man does offer versatility to play on the left side though, which could be vital with Destiny Udogie coming back from injury.
We think Emerson will be on the bench against Villa but will be first up for Tottenham if Udogie can’t play on Sunday.
