It looks like Tottenham Hotspur’s reported interest in Wout Weghorst might go beyond the usual paper talk.
Spurs have been heavily linked with the enormous Wolfsburg hitman in recent weeks.
According to a report from The Express this week, Tottenham are keen on bringing the Dutch striker – who stands at 6’6 – to North London, even if he has a £27 million price-tag.
Jose Mourinho has already brought Gareth Bale back to the club on a season-long loan from Real Madrid.
But the Portuguese coach doesn’t have a viable plan-b option for Harry Kane in the event that the red-hot goalscorer – who missed a chunk of last season with another hamstring problem – gets injured again.
Is Weghorst the answer? He just might be.
That’s because the 28-year-old has seemingly started following Tottenham on Instagram, which doesn’t guarantee a move to Mourinho’s side, but it does indicate that the interest might have substance.
The big man scored 16 Bundesliga goals in 32 outings last season which, for a side that finished seventh, is a decent enough return.
What would he be like with a Bale or Son Heung-min or Giovani Lo Celso supplying him? It might be a case of time will tell.
