Tottenham Hotspur’s new loan signing Timo Werner has been told he needs to deliver end product for Ange Postecoglou’s side otherwise he’ll be out of the team very quickly.

Timo Werner and Radu Dragusin have both arrived at Spurs this month to bolster the ranks of Ange Postecoglou’s injury-riddled squad.

Speaking on the ESPN FC Podcast, pundit Craig Burley has admitted that the 27-year-old German doesn’t look particularly sharp right now after spending most of this season on the bench at RB Leipzig.

A few eyebrows were raised when Tottenham made a move for the German international this month.

However, he’s only on a six-month loan and although Spurs have an option to buy him this summer, they’re not obliged to make the move permanent if he doesn’t impress.

Timo Werner arrives at Tottenham on loan

Ange Postecoglou has revolutionised Tottenham unbelievably quickly after arriving from Celtic in the summer.

The club’s style of play has changed completely since Antonio Conte’s time in charge and energized the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Even with several first-team stars either away from the club right now or injured, plenty of fringe players have stepped up in their place.

The likes of Giovani Lo Celso and Ben Davies in particular have impressed when called upon.

Timo Werner is the latest played brought in by Tottenham on loan to give Postecoglou another option and he was thrown straight into the action against Manchester United to make his debut.

It was a typical performance from the German, full of energy and endeavour without threatening goalkeeper Andre Onana.

Werner needs to deliver an end product to succeed at Spurs

Speaking about the German’s prospects at Tottenham, Burley said: “Well he’ll have to bring end product or he won’t be playing.

“At some point, they’ve got Richarlison in a bit of form at the moment, they’ve got Son to come back, they’ve got Kulusevski to come back and they’ve got Brennan Johnson.

“So, if he’s not pulling his weight, he won’t play. You’ve got to give him some headroom, he hasn’t played much at Leipzig and that was a big game to come in but the question of Timo Werner will be, can he bring something to Tottenham that he wasn’t able to do at Chelsea?

“And that is something tangible in the final third, we saw a little bit yesterday, the jury is going to be out, it’s very early.

“But, as I say if he doesn’t do that, he gave them great width on the left-hand side don’t get me wrong but when you’ve got the ball, go and run at the defender, go and run at Dalot, but he came back inside.

“Maybe he’s just lacking a bit of sharpness, match fitness.

“But as I said, if he’s not bringing something tangible, guess what, we have others that are going to come back from injury and some of them are away that Postecoglou has already shown some of these players that he doesn’t care if you’re Eric Dier, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, whoever you are if you’re not playing well, don’t like you, you’re not going to play.”

Timo Werner’s Tottenham loan debut vs Man United analysed

There were plenty of talking points after Sunday’s 2-2 draw at Old Trafford, but Werner’s debut drew plenty of attention.

He impressed teammate Micky Van de Ven who commented on the 27-year-old’s speed.

Ange Postecoglou was also very happy with the German, while Tim Sherwood shared his thoughts too.

Werner will know he needs to build on the assist he provided for Rodrigo Bentancur to secure his place in the side.

Son Heung-min is going to walk straight into the starting line-up once he returns from international duty with South Korea, while Dejan Kulusevski and James Maddison are key players for Postecoglou.

It might end up being a shootout between Werner and Richarlison for the last starting place in the team and right now, the Brazilian will be getting the nod.
